And just like a cake, I’m fun but bad for you. *hugs*
Every once in a while something comes along and holds the an inordinate portion of my attention for about half a year. Knowing every bizarre production factoid, having a take on every line of dialogue, and gauging what other fans think becomes compulsion. Sometimes it ends by slowly fading away to a warm place in heart where I can still revisit it from time to time when I want to see an old friend.(Avatar: The Last Airbender) Other times it ends by waking up one morning and wondering why I’ve wasted so much time on something that leaves me unsatisfied.(Transformers)
What I’m trying to say is that my 9-ish month flirtation with hardcore Disney fandom has left me emotionally and intellectually unsatisfied. Unlike most people I’ve run into in the fandom, or probably people in general, I didn’t really grow up with Disney. That is to say, I never watched Disney animation after finding Star Wars in first grade. I had fond memories of Beauty and the Beast, and eventually re-watched that film my junior year of high school to my great pleasure. Beauty and the Beast remains one of my favorite films of all time.
Unlike most cycles, this one was a bit forced. My family had been planing a trip to Disney World since last fall. So part of it was wanting to know the minutia of Disney to better enjoy the parks.(It helped, but Disney World would have been a phenomenal time regardless.) Then Tangled came out. To say that I really enjoyed it would be a terrible understatement. I liked Rapunzel’s nature to question and love. Eugene is a fairly blank slate that anyone can root for. Much more than that, I met some good people and became friends with some awesome people.
The takeaway is that I’m no longer following a number of tumblrs, and quitting a couple of message boards and will have a few extra minutes a day to annoy Stupendous. Yay!
Psssst. People should comment on the exchange stories. Especially if you’re a writer of another story. Comments work a bit like karma, you know. What goes around comes around.
Do it lest you be rightfully judged as a terrible human being.
YEAH! She has a vagina! And she’s forced to wear shit her kidnapper picks for her. FUCK HER.
Yeah! Anyone with a vagina is obviously stupid and a bit duplicitous.
I want to watch the episodes about Fluttershy. I'm not caring so much about the other characters. I don't dislike them, they're just not grabbing my attention. Can you suggest some episodes? Or maybe something that will make me like the others more?
Dragonshy, Stare Master, A Bird in the Hoof, and Green Isn’t Your Color are the four most Fluttershy heavy episodes.
Beyond those, I would highly recommend:
Sonic Rainboom has a good Fluttershy gag and serves as an introduction to Rainbow Dash.
Suited for Success is a Rarity episode that greatly deepens her character and has Fluttershy’s best (only?) monologue of the season.
The Cutie Mark Chronicles gives the backstory for the main six ponies.
Swarm of the Century and Party of One are Pinkie Pie heavy episodes. Pinkie Pie is my personal favorite, so they’re selfish recommendations, but both are very good.
(If having favorite characters and focusing on their episodes is an unforgivable faux pas, then I am surely damned to Avatar hell. Oh well, off to watch Sokka’s Master for the 99th time.)
